Issue No. 04  ·  Summer 2026  ·  Newland, North Carolina

A quiet atelier
for loud work.

art.b3rt.dev is the creative arm of the empire — editorial design, illustration, and visual research, made deliberately in a one-person studio. Every issue is a single sustained thought.

01

Selected work

Three ongoing threads from the desk.

Brand System

Empire Hex

A monogram and rule-set for a cyberpunk-minimal house style. Hex frame, crown mark, monospace voice.

Editorial

Sprint Quarterly

A long-form newsletter reimagined as a printed object. Single-column reading, generous margins, one accent per spread.

Illustration

Hex Studies

An ongoing series of geometric studies rendered as inline SVG. Each plate is a meditation on symmetry, weight, and breath.

02

From the notes

Six short pieces on craft, restraint, and the discipline of finishing.

Aug 02, 2026

Restraint is a feature.

The brief is almost always the same: one type family, two weights, one accent. The hard part is refusing the seventh.

Jul 19, 2026

Margins as material.

Whitespace is not absence. It is the negative space the eye uses to find the sentence. Editorial design lives or dies in the gutters.

Jul 04, 2026

Ship the issue.

You are not done when it is perfect. You are done when the next issue is ready to start. Perfectionism is a queue; craft is a tempo.

Jun 22, 2026

Color as punctuation.

Use one accent, on one element, per page. Anything more than that and the eye stops knowing where to land. Color is a comma, not a chorus.

Jun 09, 2026

The grid is a promise.

An eight-column grid says: every decision has a place. When you break the grid, the break has to mean something. Most breaks mean nothing.

Type talks first.

Pick the display face before you pick the color. Pick the body face before you pick the layout. Typography is the slowest decision; let it lead.
